Imagine for a moment what life is like in Ukraine right now through my illustrated visual diary
Thank you for showing interest in my mini-book.
My name is Julia Knyupa. I am an illustrator specialising in live event illustration and visual storytelling.
I’m pleased you’ve found your way to this publication. I created it based on a real visual diary — a small notebook the size of a palm, which I took with me on a trip home to Ukraine from England, in the spring of 2024. In it, I mainly drew during air raids when I went to the corridor, a common safe spot in Ukraine during attacks.
Please try to feel the reality of life in Ukraine during the war started by Russia. We will visit Cherkasy, where I was born, and Kyiv, the capital. These cities are far from the front line, but that does not mean that war is not felt there. There will be no blood or gruesome details on the pages, only the reality of everyday life.
At the end of the publication, you will also find a small video in which you will recognise some points from this book. I think you should watch it after reading the story.
Thank you to everyone who inspired me to share this story with the world, and to Ukrainians giving their lives to save our country.
